Project details

Since 2015, UDL Group has maintained Arcadia Estate, a master-planned residential community in Officer, Melbourne’s south-east, designed to integrate nature and urban living. The maintenance program spans over 20 stages of streetscapes, three parks, two wetlands, open spaces, and entryways, lasting for two years before handover to the council.

Key aspects of UDL Group’s maintenance program include:

  • Comprehensive tree care: Watering, fertilising, aerating, weeding, pest and disease control, staking, pruning, replacement, re-planting, and litter removal.
  • Twice-weekly maintenance: Estate entries, sales offices, display villages, and main road frontages.
  • Weekly maintenance: Active open space reserves and neighbourhood parks.
  • Fortnightly maintenance: Linear reserves, streetscapes, conservation areas, and wetlands.

UDL Group aligns its maintenance schedule with the client’s development phases to ensure all contract objectives are met. Tree care and pruning are planned seasonally, ensuring thorough and effective upkeep.

Challenges

  • Maintaining green spaces: Ensuring trees, garden beds, and lawns stay healthy as new construction stages begin, often causing damage that must be rectified for visual appeal.
  • NH02 wetland issues: Rain fills the basin, damaging surrounding trees and garden beds.
  • Traffic management: Increased flow as more residents move into the estate.
  • Weather: Officer’s rain catchment area means frequent wet days, requiring agile programming to adapt to inclement weather.
  • Tree establishment: Difficulty with specified tree species in early development stages.
